On Wednesday, February 18th, Norview High School students held a walkout to protest Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Walkouts also occurred at Maury, Granby, Booker T. Washington, and Lake Taylor High Schools.

The walkout started around 10:23am, between blocks 2 and 3. Students left the schol during the class transition and made their way outside.

Once students made it outside, they were moved to the school’s track, although that’s not what all students had hoped for. One student tells us:

I felt like they were suppressing us, they cooperated a bit too much with the protest.

The student felt that their message was confined to the track and that it didn’t do as much as they’d hoped. The student acknowledged that the school was doing their best to keep students safe, but the student still wasn’t completely satisfied with the way it was done.

Many students created signs for the event. Students were determined to protest peacefully so their voices could be heard. Some Hispanic students brough flags to represent their heritage. Meanwhile, other students brought signs showcasing their dislike towards ICE.

The walkout ended around 10:55am, and students were ushered back into the building by administration and security.
